Birding in Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe has a confirmed bird list of over 660 species and many birding venues for the avid birder.

Birding areas which are well-known and particularly rewarding include the Eastern Highlands, which covers Bvumba, Nyanga, Chimanimani and the Haroni-Rusito and Honde Valleys. The Brachystegia woodlands of the plateau are within the Mashonaland region. The areas comprising Chizarira and Matusadona National Parks lie south of the Zambezi.  Mavuradonha and Umfurudzi Safari Area are located north of Harare. The Save River Basin and Gonarezhou National Park are in the lowveld.  Hwange National Park and the Kalahari Sandveld are in Matabeleland as are the granite domes of Matobo National Park, just outside of Bulawayo. The Zambezi River, which forms Zimbabwe’s northern border is best divided into three sections: (a) above the Victoria Falls (b) Kariba Basin and (c) the lower valley including Mana Pools.
